Fall Card

There have been a lot of challenges posted lately on the PaperCrafts magazine message board. I normally don't have time to participate in them but I guess this one just inspired me. The challenge was to make a fall card. I got this template last year and have never used it. I always thought it would be cute to actually use thread to adhere the "patch" to the pumpkin. It turned out just how I pictured it would. Isn't that wild when that happens!? Hope you are having a nice week!

Sharing Something Funny

Just had to share these, they really made me laugh. Some time ago, my brother started sending me postcards from his vacations and traveling. He'll send me 4 or 5 at one time. I really get a kick out of them. Some of the things he writes, well, you can see above. Do I really want to know what a "HOT TUBE" is?

And last week I had to change the "30" in the description under my pic -----------------------------> to "31". This is the birthday card I got from him. Notice the print around the outside of the card "This could possibly be the best hand-made card on the face of the earth." If you're wondering, he's 27 years old!
I'll get back to posting craft stuff tomorrow.

Dog Grooming

I took a dog grooming class a couple months ago. I got sick of paying $75 for each of my dogs to be groomed. It adds up when you have 3 dogs. Plus, it is just a lot of time and hassle getting them in the car and leaving them with the groomer. It's a lot of stress on both them and me. I'm not sure me grooming them is any less stressful on me, but hopefully it is on them. I cut Zubie's hair for the first time last night. Here are the before & after pics. I knew he did not like his nails cut (he bites) but he would not even let me get the clippers near his legs or paws! He was biting at the clippers and at my hands! He is a very stubborn and strong-willed dog! I cut him the best I could, I really needed someone else here feeding him treats to distract him while I did his legs. Guess I'll have to plan ahead next time!

Another Treat Holder!

Here is a little treat holder that I made that can hold a kit kat. I got the template here, it was made to hold peppermint patties, but it just happens to be the perfect size to hold a small kit kat. I got a Scor-Pal recently and am just loving it! I used it to make this treat holder, it sure made it easier than what I was doing before (using a ruler and bone folder.) Hope you're having a nice weekend!

Halloween Treat Boxes

It seems like I'm always behind with my craft projects. I always have really good intentions of creating handmade gifts for my friends & family and somehow always run out of time. This year, I am hoping to stay ahead. I've been working on Halloween gifts for the last couple weeks and am feeling pretty good about my progress. Unfortunately, I have a feeling I'm spending way too much time on Halloween goodies and then Christmas is going to sneak up on me! These are two acetate treat boxes I made this week. I found the patterns on Splitcoast Stampers' website. Hope you like them.

Witch's Shoes

I found the template for these witch's shoes on the SCS website. Here is the link where you can find it. I printed the template that looks like it was scanned from the PC Mag, took it to Kinkos and they enlarged both the shoe and the shoe insert for 53 cents. Wow, I was so surprised it was that cheap! I actually paid cash for it (and I never carry cash!) These shoes were pretty time consuming to make, it just takes a lot of time to trace the patterns onto the cardstock, cut it out, score and tape.

I used a tip that Laura posted on her blog awhile ago, about using copic markers to dye ribbon. I somehow do not own any orange, purple or green colored ribbon, so I took whitegrosgrain ribbon and ran my purple copic marker over it. I didn't have the right color purple brads either so I colored over them with my copic marker too. The buckle was dry embossed.

Hope you have a great week!

Frankie Card

I saw this card on Nettie's blog awhile ago. She found the tutorial on Dawn's blog. It is such a cute card, and is super easy to make! They are a little addicting, once you start making one, why not make a couple more?! The second picture is one of those giant Hershey chocolate bars. I took off the wrapper and made a new wrapper. I'm sending it to my brother for Halloween.

"My Grand-Dogs" explosion box

I am so excited about this project. I went to CKC about a month ago and one of the classes I took was how to make an explosion box. I've been wanting to make something for my mom to set on her desk at work, to display the pictures of her "grand-dogs" (that's what she calls my dogs). She's retiring in early 2009 so I thought I better get on the ball about making something for her! I decided to make an explosion box with 3 inserts (one to display pics of each dog). I love how it turned out. I know she is going to be thrilled with it.

Halloween Treat Box

Last weekend I spent quite a while searching on the internet for a fast and cute little Halloween gift idea for my coworkers. I found this adorable pattern for a 2x2 gift box. You can find the pattern here. I punched a circle and put acetate behind it to make a window and filled the box with candy corn. It was relatively fast, easy and I think it is so cute. I dry embossed the little frankenstein on the top of the box using a Lasting Impressions template. Now I just need to find the time to sit down and make 40 of these things for my co-workers!!

I'm so excited!

We're leaving in a few days for vacation! I cannot wait! The last week-long vacation that I went on was in September 2003. We've decided it's time to get away! So we're headed to Gatlinburg TN. Zubie & Bunny are going to "school", it's the doggy day care they go to once a week. They have cageless overnight boarding there so it doesn't make me feel too guilty about leaving them. At least they are familiar with the place and they love going there. Rusty gets to come with us. She's never been to school and I think it would freak her out. (She's completely blind now and isn't very friendly to other dogs that just come up and sniff her when she's not expecting it.)

I'm trying to get all my swaps finished so I can go on vacation & relax and not worry about having to hurry up and finish them when I get home. I'm hosting a Halloween recipe card swap and this is the card I made for it. I immediately thought of this recipe when I was going through all my Halloween templates, looking for something I could use. I like how it turned out. Have a great weekend!

Iron Chef Recipe Swap

I'm still participating in the monthly iron chef recipe swap. We choose a category and then the secret ingredient is given to us. We have to make a 6x6 recipe card using the secret ingredient and category. This month, I had main dish and the secret ingredient was wine. I never drink wine or cook with it so this was a tough one. I had to search the internet for a good recipe. This sounds good (I would like to try it sometime) but not sure when I'll ever buy the wine to make it.
