Chalkboard Technique

I'm back from WI and am exhausted!! I stayed up very late (or early) crafting and chatting while I was there. I had a blast! I went to meet 14 other ladies from the Paper Crafts message board. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I loved getting to know everyone better. I can't wait to do it again! I'm hoping someone plans another get-together somewhere around the east coast.

I am feeling the pressure of getting my swaps done. I have about 4 swaps due this week and I don't have them done! The month of May just crept up on me! I cannot believe how fast this year is going by. One of the swaps I joined was for cards made using the Chalkboard technique. There is a tutorial on how to do the technique on Splitcoaststampers. It was easy and it really does look like writing on a chalkboard!

I just had to share this picture of Bunny & Zubie. I was getting ready for work yesterday morning and came out of the bathroom, and found the two of them on my bed. Bunny is laying on my pillow with her head resting on Zubie's back. They are just too cute!

Zubie Leash Holder

I'm getting ready to head to WI for a couple days for a retreat with some girls from the PaperCrafts site, so I won't be around until next week. Before I go, I just had to share this. I had a friend from the PaperCrafts site make this leash and key holder for me. She painted Zubie's picture on it. I was so excited with how it turned out! Everything about it is perfect. She really impressed me with her artistic talent. Don't you think it's awesome?!

It's a sad day...

My beloved Capitals lost in overtime last night to the Flyers. I am so happy for them for coming that far in the Playoffs. They had an amazing year, and I'm sure no one thought they would be in the playoffs this year, after being in last place at the end of the season last year. Okay, now that I'm done whining, I'll tell you about my card. I promised a couple days ago to post this card. The stamp is by Bam Pop and I colored it with my copic markers. I think the stamp is so cute, reminds me of the 80's. I don't know if they still make Polaroid cameras? Hope everyone has a great day!

Another Birthday Card...

Just playing around with my new Lasting Impressions templates. I think this might be my favorite of the new templates I got. What a quick and easy card! I popped up the balloon with foam tape, and used sandpaper on the paper to expose the white core.

Driving into DC for the last Caps game, I was stopped at a red light, and I looked over at the car to the left of me and it was Alex Ovechkin!! (The star player of our team, and arguably the best player in the NHL right now). I got so excited and was honking my horn and waving frantically. he looked over at me with a look like 'who the heck are you?' I just kept waving and smiling and probably jumping up and down in my seat, who knows, it all happened so fast! He then gave me a cheesy little half smile and a quick wave. Then the light turned green and he sped off. So cool, that totally made my weekend.

Caps play tonight... It's game 6 of 7 in the playoff series with Philly. Philly is winning the series 3 games to 2. The winner of the 7 games goes on to the next round. So it's go time, or go home for the Caps. I will be cheering them on (hoping, crossing my fingers, toes, arms, whatever!) for a win! Whatever the outcome, it's been an incredible season, and I am so proud of the team! Go Caps!

The cupcake party was so fun!

Thanks to Laura, for putting on a great birthday for Chrisi. There was tons of great food, and of course tons of cupcakes. Everyone brought a handmade card and it was so fun looking at all the cards. Everyone's cards were amazing. Laura brought lots of cupcake stamps and her supplies for us to play with. I stamped some images and colored them while I was there. I came home and put my cards together. I know, I know... I'm anti-glitter but the first card just looked so plain. I put some glitter glue on the heart (gasp!) but I think it was the finishing touch that it needed.

Laura gave us all a little box with goodies in it. One of the things in it was a cupcake stamp by Lizzie Anne Designs. I haven't tried any of their stamps yet. This stamp is really cute, I love it. I colored it with Copic markers and made the card below. Hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine has been nice & relaxing. Just what I needed!

Cupcake Party!

I'm going to a cupcake themed birthday party this afternoon for my friend Chrisi. It's being held at our local stamp store and we're going to craft and eat... cupcakes. I heard there is going to be a cupcake bar, where you can decorate your own cupcake! Doesn't that sound like fun?! We're all supposed to bring cupcake cards for the birthday girl. Here is the card I made. The stamps and paper are all by Bam Pop. I just discovered them a couple weeks ago and I think they are so cute. They even have a stamp of a Polaroid camera! Maybe I'll have a chance tomorrow to make a card using that stamp. Oh, one more thing about this card... it actually smells like a cupcake! I found these card scents over at All That Scraps. It comes in a nail polish type of bottle and you just apply it to the edges of your card. It really does smell like cupcakes, as soon as I opened the bottle, Zubie was right at my feet. I think he thought I had something tasty to eat. Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Dog Treat Recipe Card

I am hosting a couple swaps at the PaperCrafts site. One of them is a recipe swap for dog treats or dog food. I used a recipe for Banana Pupcakes (similar to cupcakes, but for dogs). The recipes are tucked inside a pocket. I tried to keep this recipe card simple, I had 12 people sign up for the swap and I'd like to have enough to swap with everyone. The dog is dry embossed using a Lasting Impressions template. The paper is all by LI too.

Girlfriend Card Swap

In less than 2 weeks, I am going to WI for a papercrafting retreat. Myself and about 15 other gals from the PaperCrafts message board are going there to meet and shop and have a great time. I am getting so excited. I've been swapping and chatting with some of these gals for a couple years. It will be so fun to finally meet them in person! We are going to swap cards with a girlfriend theme. I had the hardest time coming up with an idea. I don't have any girlfriend theme stamps or templates. But it finally just came to me yesterday as I was searching for girlfriend quotes on the internet. I found this great quote "Friends are like bras: Close to your heart and there for support." I thought it was a cute quote and would go perfectly with a bra shaped card. I'm going to put that sentiment on the inside of the card. I found the template for this card on a thread at SplitcoastStampers. The bra is on the front and the panties are on the back of the card. How cute is that!! Of course I had to include some embossing on the card! The little flower at the center of the bra is dry embossed. I wish I could sit and finish my cards this weekend, but the Caps are playing Philly this afternoon so I'm off to the game. Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Sketch Card

I signed up for a sketch swap with the Embossing Yahoo Group that I belong to. I liked this sketch, I instantly thought if I turn the sketch upside down, it looks like a flower! I could make a easy flower card for my swap parter! This is what I came up with. The papers, ribbon and stencil are all by Lasting Impressions.

Hope you have a great weekend! I'll be busy attending two Caps playoff games... woohoo!

Pop Up Birthday Card

I love interactive type cards. Last year, a series of interactive card classes was offered at Angela's Happy Stamper and I signed up for as many as I could. This is one of the cards I didn't finish in the class, and just recently put it all together. I'm sharing this card because it was one of my favorites. It was easy to make, and I think the effect is surprising and fun! In order to make the pop up, just score a triangle and fold it in toward the inside of the card. You can adhere your image to either side of the pop up. These images are by Lockhart stamps, and I colored them with my Copics.

Baby Card

Happy Monday! There are several people that I work with who are expecting babies this spring/summer. I've been trying to make baby cards for them as I have time. Here's one that I made at the crop I went to last weekend. The sentiment "A Baby is Love" is a template by Elegantly Embossed. The duck is a template by Lasting Impressions. I wish I had actual string or thread at the crop, I'm not really happy with the embossed paper string to pull the duck. Oh well, I guess the next time I use that template I'll have to use string.

Bunny's sad... and I'm happy!

I got my carpets cleaned a few weeks ago and I've been trying to keep them looking relatively nice, but with 3 dogs it's pretty hard. I've only had Bunny 3 months and she was completely unsocialized and not house trained when I got her. She has come a long way, but still has a few problems every now and then. She can tell me when she needs to go outside, but once she starts barking to tell me, I have about 5 seconds to open the door and let her out. Sometimes that isn't possible. I bought some puppy pads and laid them out around the house, but when Zubie feels like he needs attention, he completely shreds them into little pieces. Then that does me no good when Bunny needs the puppy pads. So I found these little doggy diapers at PetSmart... perfect solution to my problems! I put one on Bunny and she looked so sad, I had to take this picture of her. She has yet to go in the diaper so I'm wondering if it's helping with the potty training, once it's on she's reminded she can't go in the house? Time will tell I guess.

And I'm happy because the Washington Capitals have made it to the NHL playoffs!! It is truly amazing.... a team that was in last place on in December, made a remarkable comeback (in part to having our coach fired and a new coach brought in) and is now in the playoffs! The arena was so loud yesterday. I am so proud of the team and their accomplishments. Oh, and if anyone knows how to wash a signed jersey and not have the signature wash off, please let me know. I was wearing my Mike Green signed jersey last night, and in the midst of celebrations, the guy who sits next to me spilled beer on me (and then he proceeded to try to lick it off my jersey.. eww!). It was signed with a sharpie, is that really permanent through the wash? I've got my playoff tickets in hand and no jersey to wear to the first game!

Same Template, Different Look

Isn't it funny how using different papers can make the same cards look completely different? I used the same template on these cards, just used different patterned papers. I am not sure which one I like best. I really like this new template by Lasting Impressions. It makes a quick thank you card. Somehow, I'm always running out of thank you cards and birthday cards, so I wanted to make a few to have on hand. Hope you have a great day!
