Happy Birthday Mom!

This is the birthday card I made for my mom. Today is her 60th birthday! I'm going home to be with my family tomorrow. I'm excited, I haven't been home since last Christmas/New Years. I made this card for a challenge on the Paper Crafts website. The challenge was to make a diamond fold card. I got the instructions here. The tutorial is really easy to follow. The stamps are from Lockhart Stamp Company. I colored the image with copic markers and used a black gelly roll glaze pen for the doodling around the edges.

Doodle Factory Challenge

This is a card I made for the Starving Artistamps Doodle Factory challenge on Paper Craft Planet. The challenge was to create a card using acetate. Acetate isn't my favorite thing to use on my cards. I guess it's because I never quite know what to do with it. I stamped my Doodle Factory stamps on white paper and colored them with my Copic markers. I cut them out and adhered the princess and mushrooms to the acetate. The onion carriage and Happy Birthday sentiment was adhered to the base of the card. Hope you have a Happy New Year!

Sketch Challenge

Here is the sketch challenge posted this month on the Yahoo Embossing group that I belong to. I didn't like the sketch at first, but once I got my card made, I kind of like how it turned out. I'll probably be using this sketch again. When I made this, I had just finished addressing all my Christmas cards and was not in the mood to touch another Christmas stencil or paper! So I opted for a spring look! This distressed paper is my favorite line from Lasting Impressions. I just love the look of it. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas holiday!

Merry Christmas!

I had trouble thinking of something my brother would like for Christmas. He finally gave me a couple ideas including a big chocolate bar. This is one of the really big Hershey's chocolate bars that I covered with white cardstock, doodled around the edges with a brown Zig pen, and then added my punch Rudolph. I used my purple and pink Marvy oval punches for his body, muzzle and ears. I used a small round punch for the eyes and nose. I hand cut the antlers. His neck looks too long to me now. Oh well. My brother won't care! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas day!

Photo Contest

You might remember around Halloween time I dressed my dog Rusty up as a cat and entered her photo in a contest sponsored by my local florist. We won 2nd place in that contest and received a $75 gift card to the florist. They are now having a holiday photo contest, and the first place winner can receive a $100 gift card. My mom will be celebrating her 60th birthday on December 30th and I would love to surprise her with a HUGE floral arrangement for her birthday. If you'd like to vote, you can do so by going here. You can't miss Sammy dressed up as Santa!

Nugget Tins

I made a few of these for people at work. I got the tins from Specialty Bottle. They hold 12 Hershey nuggets. For two of them, I stamped using my Papertrey Holiday Treats set on a sheet of 1"x3" labels and covered the nuggets with the labels. The other one has nuggets that I covered with plain cardstock. Then I made belly bands to go around the tins, and stamped the images for the front using Papertrey stamps. I like how they turned out. Easy, quick gifts!

Decorating the Office

I work in a financial institution. Recently, it's been hard to keep an upbeat attitude when so many people are experiencing financial problems. One of the other managers had the idea to decorate the office as a surprise and morale booster to all the employees. I thought it was a fantastic idea. We went to the office one weekend and decorated for over 4 hours! I wrapped all the pictures on the wall to resemble gifts. She put up the tree and other decorations. We enlisted the help of another employee to make the picture ornaments. I punched circles using my large (purple) Marvy punch. She took the pictures and punched them out using my pink Marvy punch and attached them to the paper ornaments. I think she did a great job for someone who's not a scrapbooker/crafter! She took everyone's picture in the department and made an ornament for each person. I thought it was so nice and everyone was so surprised.

Cupcake Challenge!

I love the sketches listed every Friday on Taylored Expressions website. I've been wanting to participate in them but never seem to find the time. I finally had time this weekend to work on the sketch, and was inspired by my new Lasting Impressions cupcake template. I dry embossed the cupcake and the sentiment is a metal embellishment by Lasting Impressions. Hope you're having a great weekend and finding the time to spend the holidays with your family and friends!

Back to Embossing...

It was a lot of work, but I made a dry embossed Christmas card for almost all my friends and family this year. I sent out about 40-50 cards. I have wanted to do this in previous years, but embossing takes a lot longer than just stamping a card. I just ran out of time the last couple years. This year I chose a couple of simple designs and mass produced a few different card designs.

In November, I signed up for a card crop at Scrapbooks Plus, and they had card kits you could buy. A copy of the card sample was included, and all the paper and ribbon you needed to make 8-10 cards. I bought several kits and spent an entire day there working on my dry embossed cards. This is one of the cards I made there. I changed the design a little from what was given in the kit. I was hoping to send out cards that were flat to save some money but it didn't work out that way. I almost always use foam tape with my embossing to give the images some dimension.
I used two different Lasting Impressions templates for this card (the dog is one template and the winter hat is another template). Hope you're having a great week!

Double Gift Card Holder

Here is a gift card holder similar to the one I posted yesterday. This one holds two gift cards. Instead of taping the bottom gift part together so it just holds one card at the top, I added the two holders inside. When the recipient takes the top of the gift off, the bottom box part opens to reveal the two gift cards. I almost like this design better than the one I posted yesterday!

Gift Card Holder

Isn't this cute?! I'm really proud of myself for coming up with this design. When I was looking up gift card templates, I saw a few shaped ones and thought it would be so cute to have one shaped as a gift.

Here are the basic instructions:
  • Gift box is two pieces of cardstock, 4 1/4" square
  • Adhere 3 sides together (leaving the top part open) and add some tape halfway up so the gift card doesn't fall down into the box. You want to see half of it sticking up when it's opened
  • Box top is two pieces of cardstock 4 3/4" x 2"
  • Adhere 3 sides together (leaving the bottom part open)
  • Decorate with patterned paper & ribbon - might want to think about this before you adhere the cardstock pieces together. I had to take mine apart a couple times to add the ribbon.
  • Add a to/from tag. I just hand cut mine and stamped the "to/from"
You could add a brad in the corner of the box top to make the top hinge off the box. I didn't do that because mine is going to a guy. I didn't think he would get it.

Gift Card Holders

This is a quick post because I'm really busy this weekend, as I'm sure everyone is. Here are a few gift card holders that I made this year. I found all the templates through a google search. The wallet one came from Lauren Meader's blog. I don't know where I found the other template. Hope you're having a great weekend!

Santa Suit Card

This is the Christmas card I made for everyone at my office. I wanted something quick & simple, and cheap since I was mass producing them (I needed 45 to give one to all my co-workers). I got the idea for this in one of Laura's 10 in 10 card classes. Mine is a little different but I have to give her credit for the idea. This card is simple, I hand cut the red pieces, adhered them to the card and added black brads. Next I put the ribbon through a pop can top (for the buckle) and adhered it to the card. That's all there is to it! Everyone at work loved them. I took the day off from work yesterday to try to catch up on a few things. I might have to do that every December, it made a world of difference in my stress level! My shopping is almost done! Cards are almost finished!

Reindeer Games

A guy at work asked me to make a Christmas card for a girl that he has a crush on. I thought of this stamp and thought it would be perfect. I got this stamp last year and this is the first time I've used it until now. The reindeer stamp is by CC Designs. The little round stamp is from the riveting set by Stampin' Up. I colored the reindeer with my Copic markers. I added some stickles to the reindeer's nose and to the little green tree to give it a little sparkle. I'm still not caught up on my cards, I am planning to take a day off from work this week to try to get caught up on everything. I'm hoping to get all my cards in the mail by Monday. Wish me luck!

Christmas Cards

I've been working on my Christmas cards. I'm running late this year. Usually I'm much more organized and work on my cards slowly throughout the year. Not this year. Now I'm scrambling to get all my cards made. I think this is going to be the Christmas card that I send to my family. I really like this Lasting Impressions template and the saying "All Spruced Up" with the trees makes me smile. I better get working and get some cards signed, addressed and in the mail!

Hockey Night!

I found the template for this skate treat holder on the Stamp Shack. You have to be a member of the website (I think it was about $10/year to join) to get the template. Isn't it the cutest?! We have season tickets for the Washington Capitals games, and there are two little boys who sit in our section that I wanted to give a small gift to. When I saw the template for this skate treat holder, I knew it would be perfect! I made the skate (it was super easy), and then put a few treats inside it. I found the Capitals logo on a google search, and added it to the side of the skate. Hope you're having a great week!

Iron Chef Recipe Swap

I am still participating in the Iron Chef recipe swap. It's been almost a year since I joined, and I am having so much fun creating these recipe cards. They can be really challenging! This was my month to select the secret ingredient. I chose garlic and chose side dish as my category. The swap hostess gave us all a sketch to use when creating our cards. I love that, design is the thing I struggle with most in my cards. Here is the picture of the sketch and what I came up with.
